How to check a Romanian company

Any Romanian company can be checked for free, online, by CUI or name. Data comes from official public registries: ONRC, ANAF, the Ministry of Finance and the Monitorul Oficial.

Steps, in brief

1. Search for the company by CUI or name

The CUI is the most reliable search key — names can repeat, CUIs cannot. You will find it on any invoice or contract.

2. Check identity and ONRC status

Confirm the exact name, registered office, trade-register number and status: active, dissolved, struck off or in insolvency.

3. Check VAT status and fiscal inactivity

The company page shows, live from ANAF data, whether the company is a VAT payer, whether it applies cash-basis VAT and whether it has been declared fiscally inactive.

4. Read the balance sheet

Public multi-year balance sheets show turnover, profit, number of employees and total liabilities — whether the company has real activity and which direction it is heading.

5. Check directors and shareholders

Directors' and shareholders' names are public ONRC data. Check which other companies the same persons appear in.

Frequently asked questions

Is checking a company free?

Yes. All identification data, VAT status, ONRC status and public balance sheets are public information and can be consulted for free, without an account.

What is the CUI?

The Unique Registration Code — the fiscal identifier assigned by ANAF to every legal entity. For VAT payers it is prefixed with RO.

Can I find out whether a company is struck off or in insolvency?

Yes. The ONRC status (active, dissolved, struck off, insolvency) appears on the company page, along with the history of published events.

Where does the data come from?

Exclusively from official public sources: ONRC (data.gov.ro), ANAF, the Ministry of Finance (balance sheets), Monitorul Oficial and SEAP for public procurement.
